Tokyo 2020: Reports from coaches, officials coming in - NSC

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 -- The National Sports Council (NSC) have started getting reports from coaches and officials involved in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for the purpose of carrying out a post-mortem, said NSC director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail.
He said that once they have received all the reports, the NSC would hold a workshop with the national sports associations (NSAs) that were involved.
As for the Tokyo Paralympics that ended on Sunday (Sept 5), the process is expected to begin once the officials and coaches have completed the 14-day mandatory quarantine period.
He said that the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Evaluation and Improvement Committee would study the reports and feedback given by the stakeholders, such as the NSC, NSAs, National Sports Institute (NSI), Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) and Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM).
“The conclusion from this committee, chaired by the Youth and Sports Ministry’s secretary-general Datuk M Noor Azman Taib, will be presented to Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu to be used as a guide in planning for the next Olympics and Paralympics,” he said when contacted today.
Ahmad Shapawi said that for now, the Podium Programme would go on a usual, with the NSC along with the NSAs involved preparing their athletes for the 2022 Commonwealth and Asian Games.
“There is still some uncertainty about the SEA Games, but the NSAs have named most of their best athletes for both the Commonwealth Games and Asiad.
“They may also be asked to compete in the SEA Games in Hanoi, Insyallah if we decide to send senior athletes to the postponed multi-sports Games,” he said.
Yesterday, Ahmad Faizal had announced the formation of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Evaluation and Improvement Committee as part of three agendas to prepare the national contingent for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.
He also announced that the ministry would also start the Olympic and Paralympic Special Programme based on the findings of the Podium Programme Improvement Committee, which would the roadmap to sporting excellence and talent development for the next three cycles of the Olympics and Paralympics, namely Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.
