Survey in China shows more attention to the disabled after Paralympics

BEIJING, Sept 11 -- Over 95 per cent of the respondents in a recent online survey said they have paid more attention to people with disabilities around them after watching the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Xinhua news agency reported that  in a survey conducted by the China Youth Daily, nearly 89 percent of the 1,273 respondents noticed that disabled people are facing challenges in their lives, including psychological and financial difficulties, disadvantages in education and employment, as well as inconveniences while traveling.

Of the total respondents, 67 percent said they expect to see strengthened social welfare support for the disabled, while 65.8 percent suggested more tailored education and job opportunities for such people.

Over 60 percent of the surveyed said more attention should be given to psychological counseling for the group.
