UPSI confers Honorary Doctorate in Sports Management on OCM President Mohamad Norza

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20  -- Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) President Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria was today conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Sports Management by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).

Mohamad Norza received the award in conjunction with UPSI's 22nd Convocation Ceremony which was graced by its Chancellor Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim at Dewan Tuanku Canselor, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus, UPSI in Tanjung Malim, Perak.

In a statement issued by OCM, USPI Faculty of Sports Science and Coaching dean Dr. Jaffry Zakaria said the conferment is in appreciation of Mohammad Norza, who is also the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president, for his dynamic leadership and contribution to sports.

“He (Mohamad Norza) is the first president of OCM and first Malaysian to have been given this highest honor by the university based on his contributions, sports leadership as well as the Olympic Movement at the national, Southeast Asia and Asia levels,” he said.

Meanwhile, OCM deputy president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said: “On behalf of every one of us in OCM, from the Executive Council, the Executive Board and the Management of OCM, we are very proud for the award of Honorary Doctorate in Sports Management to our President,”.

In a separate statement, Mohamad Norza said the award will serve as an incredible motivation for him to give full commitment and dedication towards the betterment of sports in this country.

“What we have achieved has not been easy and it was the result of the hard work of everyone involved to further advance sports in Malaysia,” he said in the BAM statement.
