KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Bernama) -- China has agreed to host the 2023 Asia Sepaktakraw Championship from June 19 to 24, as a prelude to the 19th Asian Games that will be held in Hangzhou, come September this year.

China Sepaktakraw Association president He Fengxiang said the championship will serve as a Pre-Asian Games trial run that can help the organisers to test the venue and facilities as well as identify flaws in the organising aspects, if any, before the games proper opens in September.

“Apart from evaluating and improving the technical aspects, the championship will also enable the organisers to test the security aspects, volunteers participation, culture, experience of athletes, the expectations of fans and test the media and broadcast facilities.

“By hosting a high level competition, we can gain good experience, test all the relevant equipment and facilities. We can also identify issues that may arise so that such issues can be rectified before the 2022 Asian Games begin in September,” he said in a statement today.

The 2022 Asian Games that was supposed to be hosted by China in Hangzhou, was postponed by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) due to the COVID-19 pandemic in China.

“The Sepaktakraw Association of China is comitted to undertake the organising of the 2023 Asia Sepaktakraw Championship with the cooperation of the Hangzhou Asian Games organising committee, International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF) and Asia Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF),” he said.
